沖縄戦にて、海岸で日本軍兵士が1945年5月に銃殺された。2名のアメリカ軍兵士がタバコをくわえながら、その死体を眺めて見下ろしていた。沖縄戦は、1945年3月26日から6月23日に終結した。アメリカ軍の圧倒的な火力で、日本軍は5月27日に首里司令部を撤退して、6月23日に摩文仁の軍司令部が崩壊して消滅した。日米の膨大な犠牲により、太平洋戦争が終結に向けて始動した。
