中国で一般市民を含めた学生が、1989年4月から独裁から民主化を求めて集会をした。5月にソビエトのペレストロイカの民主化に影響を受け、次第に集会が拡大して、国内にも波及した。それに対抗するために6月の第一日曜日に軍隊が学生らを無差別に武力弾圧をした。さらに民主化の支持者らを連行して、報道統制して厳格に統制をした。大量の犠牲者の内容は不詳となった。
