A ossified skull bone separated from a Japanese soldier to be died on New Guinea Island was left into the ground.

太平洋戦争のニューギニア島にてアメリカとオーストラリア軍と日本軍が1942年3月7日から戦闘した。北部のポエキンの村から東の密林にて、日本軍兵士が死亡した白骨の胴体から分離した頭蓋骨が土中に放置されていた。悲劇に死亡した際は歯を食いしばりつつあった。大多数の日本軍兵士は、感染症と飢餓による栄養失調で死亡した。日本軍兵士には、終戦まで引き揚げ命令もなく、約9割が死亡した。
