第2次世界大戦中に、ルーマニア人自身がユダヤ人の虐待者となった。1941年6月28日のルーマニアのヤーシで、ルーマニア人によるユダヤ人の大量虐殺が行われた。大勢のユダヤ人々をヴルトゥールの森を行進させた後に、10人づつ一緒くたにされて、次々と銃殺された。ルーマニア軍は、ユダヤ人は約14,000人を虐殺し、その中には母親や子どもたちも大勢含まれていた。2004年になってルーマニア自らユダヤ人の大量虐殺を公式に認めた。
