日中戦争において、日本軍は南京を陥落して1937年12月13日から占領した。その後に、南京にて、日本軍による南京内から周辺地域で市民を含めた南京虐殺が起こった。中国人に対して、日本軍刀による首切りが当たり前にあった。中国人犠牲者が公開で首斬刑される瞬間であった。
