アフガニスタンのカブールで、少年は小型のプラスト地雷(VS-50)を踏みつけ炸裂した。赤十字病院で破裂した左下肢ならびに左上肢を処置して切断された。地雷には多量の爆薬が内蔵されて広範囲にわたり吹き飛ばされて即死あるいは重傷となる。多数の紛争国では、対人地雷などは約1億個以上も居住地域も含めて残留している。
