パレスチナはシリア南部の地域的名称であった。第2次世界大戦後に1947年11月29日にパレスチナ分割決議案が国連で採択され、1948年5月14日にユダヤ人のイスラエルが独立した。対抗したアラブ諸国との中東戦争から、イスラエルはヨルダン川西海岸とガザ地区を侵略した。1987年12月6日にイスラエル軍と衝突してパレスチナ人が死亡した。反乱が蜂起するインティファーダにより内戦が続いた。それをイスラエル軍は圧倒的な武力で弾圧した。内戦の犠牲者となったパレスチナ人は子供らを救護しながら逃避した。
