ロシア帝国内で1917年のロシア革命から1922年にかけて残酷なる内戦が勃発した。赤軍(共産)と白軍(保守)に英国・フランスなどの列強派遣軍が介入して内乱となった。白軍のテロに対抗して、赤軍の人民委員会もテロを宣言した。軍隊だけでなく政治的警察も加わった内乱の混乱中で多くの国民が惨殺されて、死体が散乱した。
