ベトナム戦争で使用された弾薬は約1,144万トンで、朝鮮戦争の3倍以上、第2次世界大戦の約2倍であった。ジョンソン大統領は1965年2月8日に北ベトナムへの報復爆撃が指令した。1972年4月16日にアメリカ空軍によるハイフォン爆撃で、北ベトナムのレー・ディン・バー家族の7人全員が犠牲となり無差別爆撃で爆死した。
