第2次世界大戦では、ナチス・ドイツ軍の親衛隊は、ソビエト連邦と東部戦線にて、抵抗運動を行うとしてロシア人や捕虜を虐殺した。地域住民もパルチザンと疑われ、ロシア人の犯人として逮捕した。親衛隊は連行した多数のロシア人らをパルチザンとして見せしめのため公開の絞首刑を執行した。
