第1次世界大戦において、オスマントルコ帝国内でキリスト教徒のアルメニア人に対して甚大な虐殺をした。オスマントルコ大国に対抗して、青年トルコ人が1908年から反専制と立憲の革命運動をしたが内部分裂した。青年トルコ党は1915年6月1日にコンスタンチノープルのバヤジッド広場にて、アルメニア人のフンチャク党員の20名を絞首刑にして虐殺した。
