大東亜戦争における日中戦争で1944年4月17日から12日10日かけて、日本軍は華北から華南に連結をするために、大陸打通侵略をした。南方での桂林の戦闘において、国際法違反であった致死性の毒ガス攻撃をした事を告発された。桂林の七星岩内で投与されて、猛毒のために皮膚が黒化するも軍服には傷口もなく丸焼けもしていない中国兵の死体が散乱した。
