At the devastated jungle of New Britain Island, the Japanese army soldiers were almost completely killed in the Pacific war.

太平洋戦争において、ビスマルク諸島では最大面積のニューブリテン島で1943年12月15日からアメリカ軍が上陸して、日本軍は1945年8月15日の終戦まで戦闘があった。ニューブリテン島のグロスター岬における荒れ果てた寂しきジャングルの中で最期には日本軍の守備隊はほとんど全滅した。
