第2次世界大戦のウクライナでドイツとソ連の戦闘にて、両国はウクライナを弾圧した。一時的にドイツにより1941年6月に独立宣言するも、ナチスは直ちに逮捕して解体した。ウクライナは4分割されて、住民らを追放するため、最初にユダヤ人、次にウクライナ人を餓死、強制労働から殺戮した。住民らはドイツ軍に殺害された多数の悲惨な死体の中から家族を探した。その後にはドイツ軍だけでなく、ソ連軍、民族主義者らも復讐の殺戮を繰り返した。
