On the hillside of Guadalcanal Island, not only the dead bodies of many Japanese soldiers but also the US Marines were scattered and bloodstained.

太平洋戦争のガダルカナル島の戦闘にて、アメリカ軍の海兵隊員は日本軍からの狙撃によって仰向けにて即死した。1942年9月12日から14日のガダルカナル島のエドソンの丘やムカデ高地が血染めの高地となった。小道が繋がっている山腹には、多数の日本兵の死体だけでまく、海兵隊のも散在して、飢餓に追い詰められる緒戦となった。アメリカ軍には野戦医療が整備され、その他の海兵隊らは一命を留めた。
