インドネシアのジャカルタで1898年5月12日の学生運動に対して、スハルト政権の政府軍兵士がトリサクティ大学生4名を射殺した。翌日の追悼式には市民も参加して市内が暴動で内戦化した。各地で暴行や放火が華僑や市民にも向かいに巻き込まれて多数が死亡した。ジャカルタの5月暴動で黒焦げになって発見された娘の死体に母親が泣き崩れた。5月21日にはスハルノ政権が崩壊した。
