In the Opium war, the British and French army invaded the Tangu Fort, where the dead bodies of the Quing army soldiers were scattered.

清国はアヘンを密輸したアロー号を拿捕した外国人排斥事件を発端にして、アロー戦争が勃発した。イギリス・フランス軍と1856年から1860年まで戦闘した。1860年8月21日に天津にある大沽砲台が制圧されて、城壁内側には、清国軍兵士の死体がごろごろ転がっていた。大砲の周辺には13人がまとまって倒れていた。その後10月13日には清国は北京まで侵略され、10月24日から不平等条約である北京条約を締結した。
