アメリカ軍兵士が、1943年にアメリカ合衆国の母国の婚約者に、日本人の遺物を送付した。婚約者に送付した日本軍兵士の頭蓋骨の写真が、1943年のライフ誌に掲載された。1944年にシンガポールのシ・レンゴ抑留所でも、アメリカ兵が自分たちの家族に日本兵の骨をお土産として送ったという新聞が回覧された。日本ファシズムに対する狂気じみた戦争宣伝となった。ライフ誌は、1936年に11月23日から1972年12月29日休刊まで写真を通じたアメリカからの視点の週刊誌が発刊されていた。
