エルサルバドル内戦が、1980年10月から1992年6月の停戦まで、アメリカ軍が支援する右派軍事政権と反米国が支援する反政府民族解戦線(FMLM)が悲惨な戦闘をした。1982年3月に選挙阻止を訴えた反政府のゲリラと弾圧する政府軍とが激烈な戦闘をした。サン・フェリベ等では、虐殺された市民を含めたゲリラ兵士の死体が政府軍のトラックに放り込まれた。
