ソ連が1979年にアフガニスタン内乱に侵攻してから完全に撤退する1989年まで悲惨な紛争が勃発した。アフガニスタン人の息子と甥がソ連のロケット弾の爆撃で、胸部と下肢の貫通と大量出血して殺害された。16歳と20歳の2人の青年の遺体を並べて、その周りをとり囲んで簡潔な葬式をした。
