太平洋戦争にてマリアナ諸島のサイパン島で、アメリカ軍が1944年6月15日に上陸して日本軍が7月9日に日本軍は全滅した。6月15日の上陸に対抗して、水際から約50mの塹壕で日本軍の全滅した遺体が散在した。水際で日本軍が全滅して、アメリカ軍の約20,000名が上陸して占領した。
