第2次世界大戦にて、連合軍が1942年8月19日にドイツ軍が占領していた北フランスのディエップに奇襲して上陸した。それを待機していたドイツ軍の猛攻撃により連合軍は壊滅状態に至った。ドイツ軍兵士が、多くの散乱した連合軍兵士の死体から装備を奪い収集した。
