朝鮮戦争において、1950年9月30日からアメリカ軍と韓国軍は、北緯30度線を越えて北朝鮮内に北侵した。平壤を10月19日に韓国軍が最初に占領した。北朝鮮の中東部の咸興市にて、北朝鮮軍から反動とされた多くの朝鮮人市民は防空壕に収容されて、爆発して虐殺された。
