第1次世界大戦の東部戦線において、ドイツ軍のパウル・フォン・ヒンデンブルグ司令官は、ロシア大軍を膨大に虐殺して勝利した。対戦の勝利の記録では波状攻撃して撃退された死に行くロシア兵の死傷者は数え切れていない。ロシア戦死者の死体は集団埋葬するまで放置されて散乱した。戦後に司令官は大統領になり、政権をヒトラーのナチスに譲った。ロシア軍の撤退は精神的衝撃となり、ロシア革命から政権はスターリンに繋がり、第2次世界大戦の誘因となった。
