アルメニア人は、トルコ帝国からの虐殺を回避するために、1918年にトルコに隣接してアルメニア共和国を建国した。首都のエレバンの路上では、家族らと難民して餓死した子供たちの死体が散乱した。国際的支援をを求めるも、注目されず無視された。共和国は1921年までにトルコとロシアに分割された。ソ連が崩壊した1991年に再びに共和国は独立できた。
