ロシアでは1917年から1922年にかけて帝国内の内戦を争った。内戦は英仏米日から支援された右派主体の白軍と左派共産主体の赤軍とが衝突した。1918年までは白軍が赤軍より優勢となり、白軍兵士は多数の赤軍兵士の銃殺した戦死体の検分をした。それ以後は逆にトロツキーが編制した赤軍が優勢となり、白軍を銃殺してロシアを支配した。
