In World War II, about 25,000 Poles were murdered massively in the Katyne Massacres by the Soviet NKVD.

第2次世界大戦においてソ連内のスモレンクス南方のカティンの森にて1940年に主に約25,000人のポーランド人が銃殺された。その一部の遺体を1943年にナチス・ドイツ軍が約4,143人の死体を探知した。ソ連の虐殺と敵対し非難した。1990年にゴルバチョフ書記長がソビエト内務人民委員部(NKVD)が主犯と公表した。
