日中戦争にて1937年8月13日から日本軍と中華民国軍の戦闘による第二次上海事変が勃発した。戦闘に巻き込まれた母親は戦死して、肩を銃弾で打ち抜かれた幼児が取り残され道端に倒れ叫び苦しんだ。
