Sammy Abed mourns his 4-year-old sister Massa Abed, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza, at the morgue of Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, on April 27, 2025. Fifty-one deaths were reported in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli military attacks, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed in the war to over 52,000.
According to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, four people were killed in an attack in the central city of Deir al-Balah, while another attack targeting a tent in the same area killed four children and one man. Al-Auda Hospital and Al-Aqsa Hospital reported that an attack directly struck a café near the entrance of the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, killing at least six people. Nasser Hospital reported that an attack targeting a tent in the southern city of Khan Yunis killed eight people, including three children and two women. The Gaza Strip's hospitals received the bodies of 51 Palestinians killed in 24 hours of Israeli airstrikes on April 27, the local Health Ministry announced on April 27. This brings the total number of Palestinians killed in the 18-month-long Israeli-Hamas war to 52,243.
Israel launched a surprise airstrike on March 18, ending the ceasefire with Hamas. Since then, it has continued attacks almost daily. Ground forces have expanded their buffer zone, encircling the southern city of Rafah. They now control approximately 50% of the territory. Israel has also cut off the 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip from all imports, including food and medicine, maintaining a blockade for nearly 60 days. Aid groups say supplies are running out, and thousands of children are malnourished.
