On April 3, 1941, nationalist Rachid Ali attempted a palace revolution in Iraq. The fratricidal fighting in Syria. Senegalese soldiers of the Vichy army killed near Saïda.

In World War II, fighting broke out in Syria in April 1941. The bodies of Vichy Senegalese soldiers who had died near Saida in Syria were scattered around. In October 1941, Admiral François Darlan awarded General Dents the Legion of Honor for his services in Syria.

On April 3rd 1941, the nationalist Rashid Ali attempted a palace revolution in Iraq. In order to support the rebellion against British interests, Germany asked the puppet state of Vichy for permission to use the Syrian air base. Admiral François Darran gave his immediate approval and the Paris Protocol was signed on May 27th and 28th. Under the three agreements, Vichy agreed to hand over arms to Iraqi insurgents. It granted the German Luftwaffe access to Syrian airfields. It allowed German troops to send reinforcements to the Afrika Korps via Bizerte. The German Navy was able to be freed in Dakar. In exchange, the German Empire reduced the cost of occupation, released nearly 100,000 prisoners of war, and allowed the rearming of ships. The British military considered the military installations to be sophistry, and through negotiations, the British stopped pandering to Vichy and, by force, took over Syria in June and July 1941.

On June 10th 1940, the Allied forces were defeated in just four weeks, and the French government moved from Paris to Bordeaux. On June 22nd, France signed an armistice agreement, and Paris, the north and west of the country were occupied by the German army. Marshal Philippe Pétain, who shook hands with Hitler in Montoir on October 24th 1940, began a system of cooperation at the highest level. The meeting was held in a railway carriage near the railway station in the town of Montoir. This symbolic meeting was used for propaganda purposes. The Pétain faction considered it to be a betrayal by the fighters of the Resistance.
