エルベ川に至る途中、アメリカ軍はノルトハウゼン地域を解放した。同地には大規模なドーラ=ミッテルバウ強制収容所があり、V-1からV2ロケット兵器などの生産を行っていた。強制労働にて死亡したユダヤ人や捕虜の死体が散在していた。アメリカ軍が1945年4月12日にノルトハウゼンの強制収容所を解放した。当時は約3,000体以上の死体が放置されていた。ユダヤ人や捕虜を死ぬほど酷使して労働させる奴隷労働を強要した。最新兵器であるV-1からV-2ロケットなどの生産にもノルトハウゼン近郊のドーラ=ミッテルバウ強制収容所に、拘束した捕虜やユダヤ人を奴隷労働として大量収容された。 1944年11月1日には約32,471人の囚人を収容して、過半数は死亡した。
