第2次世界大戦の東部戦線からソ連軍から1945年4月16日からベルリン総攻撃をした。ナチス・ドイツ軍によりロシアを蹂躙されたソ連軍は、22日にベルリン市内に侵攻して復讐のために虐殺と蛮行に至った。平地で逃げ場のないベルリン市内でドイツ軍兵士や市民らが虐殺された死体が散在し、膨大な犠牲者が出た。4月30日にヒトラーは自殺して、ソ連ン軍は国会議事堂の頂上に占領した赤旗を掲げ、5月2日にドイツは無条件に全面降伏した。
