日中戦争において、80年前の1937年12月13日に南京に入城した日本軍は、中国人に対して大量の虐殺事件を引き起こした。無抵抗の非戦闘員である投稿兵から捕虜さらに婦女子から市民を含めて、虐殺だけでなく、略奪から強姦の残虐行為を繰り返した。城外を出て、長江を渡って退避する途中の市民らが銃撃を受けて大量に虐殺された。日本軍は殺害された大量の市民らを処理して、黒焦げになった死体が長江に流されて下関の岸に堆積した。
