太平洋戦争末期の沖縄戦で、1945年4月1日に沖縄本島にアメリカ軍が侵攻した。沖縄は日本本土における1億総玉砕の最前線となった。4月6日から航空機で本格的な特攻をするも、4月7日に戦艦大和が撃沈し、沖縄戦は激化した。アメリカ軍海兵隊がパトロール中に日本軍兵士を射殺して検死をした。
