Korean citizens and others were beheaded open to the public by the Japanese army who were confined in Confucianism and resisted external enemies.

日清戦争により1910年8月29年から1945年9月9日まで日韓併合となる。朝鮮の慶尚北道の安東地方は、朝鮮王朝時代を代表する儒学者・李滉の故郷であり、儒教的伝統の中心であった。その地方では儒教で朝鮮市民等が外的な敵に抵抗する義兵が日本軍に斬首されて見せしめにされた。
