ヨーロッパ列強により18世紀末からアフリカは分割され植民地化した。イタリアのムッソリーニ軍事政権は、エチオピアを再度に征服するために1935年10月2日からエチオピア戦争をした。イタリア軍からの砲撃を受けてエチオピア帝国軍の兵士は戦死した。エチオピア軍は素足で、他のヨーロッパから買収した原始的な武器では、イタリア軍は1936年5月7日にエチオピアを征服した。
