In the battle of Leyte Island during the Pacific War, the death rate of the annihilated Japanese soldiers reached 97%.

太平洋戦争にて1944(昭和19)年10月から日本軍はレイテ島の戦闘は戦死率97%に達する84,000名中に81,500名が戦死して全滅した遺体が散乱する。
